Default Bump / Lump on horses nose???

My horse looks like he has bumped his face (on the long boney piece between his nostril & eye). It has come up in a very hard lump about the size of a 20 cent piece & raised about a centimeter & looks & feels a bit like a splint you would see on a cannon bone. There is no broken skin & it doesn't seem sore but I was wondering if there was anything I could do to reduce it or make it go away - any suggestions would be appreciated!

Please..... can anyone help. The lump has been there for 3 days now & hasn't gone down in the slightest. Would Flints medicated oil help?

I've had similar bumps, one from a knock that broke the skin & got infected, and one from a fracture. If the skin is intact, it may just be a bruise, which should go down. Try arnica ointment, great for bruising (but never on a cut).
They have growth plates in their skull, running across the nose & under the eyes. A knock or excess stress can cause a fracture, which comes up in a big, ugly lump. Not much to do for this but you can try anti-inflammatory (bute), arnica, and extra calcium to help the healing. It should eventually go down (eventually being, oh, a year or so!)
My two healed really well, from golf ball size bumps to barely noticable.

One of ours got a touch up from a filly and it has never changed,
or it could be calcium deficiency (from our equine dentist)

One of my tb mares came home from stud 18 months ago, with a noticeable bump on her face, on the edge of the flat bit, about 3 inches below her eye. I think she got kicked while she was at stud.

It wasn't painful, there was no soft swelling, it was hard, so I left it alone. It has now almost disappeared, but it has taken 18 months!

Speak to your vet and see if there's anything that can be used on it.

    Cheers

Does the horse eat a lot of kikuyu?
If so it could be a calcium deficiency (bighead)!
Add some calcium or dolomite to the feed and see if it helps - not sure of the exact amount but a tablespoon or two sounds good!

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

No, the horse doesn't eat any kikuyu just a phalaris pasture mix but I guess some calcium may help. I will definitely try the arnica as the skin is not broken.

Hmmm, wish it would go down & I hope it doesn't take 12 to 18 months (but of course I am thankful it is nothing more serious!).

    Thanks again for the help.
