View Full Version : Conners In Fresh Approach With Impetuous

Talented but moody mare Impetuous is a puzzle, even to her experienced trainer Clarry Conners.
A brilliant winner of the Mona Lisa Stakes two starts ago, Impetuous followed it with an inglorious performance in the Tibbie Stakes at Newcastle where she finished second last.
Her tendency to mix form prompted Conners to delve deeper.
Another look at her record revealed her three career wins had all come first-up from a spell - and all at Wyong.
While he couldn't do much about the venue, Conners decided to change the mare's training and space her runs.
As a result, she will head to Saturday's Angst Stakes (1600m) at Randwick off a three-week break, a move Conners hopes will coax out her best.
"She's run a couple of nice races. She ran well in that race at Scone (Guineas) but a couple of other times she has been disappointing," he said.
"What we've purposely done is kept her fresh. She hasn't raced since Newcastle and even though it's a mile on Saturday, we've kept her fresh and hopefully that has done the trick."
Impetuous is yet to win over the 1600m of Saturday's race in two attempts but Conners has been satisfied with her previous efforts over the journey.
He has also heeded the advice of several jockeys who are convinced the four-year-old is a miler.
"Everyone who rides her says she wants 1600 (metres) so we'll see what happens."
Our Girl Charlize will also line up for Conners in the Angst, a Group Three race in which the John O'Shea-trained Lucky Lago holds a slight call as favourite.
The last-start Warwick Farm winner, described by O'Shea "as flying" is a $5 chance in latest markets ahead of Sharnee Rose ($6), the Kris Lees-trained mare who produced a surprise in the Golden Pendant.
