Wondering if anyone knows what this weed is, that has sprung up this spring in the bottom half of my beautiful Kikuyu grass paddock. Can't recall seeing it last season, but is now almost taking over the bottom half of the paddock. Very wispy with fine purple flowers and seed cases. Was going to slash to try and get rid of it and give the grass a fighting chance. Any advice will be gratefully taken onboard, Thanks!

In my experience, slashing certain types of weeds just spreads it further, especially if it has seeds/pods that can easily germinate. My suggestion would be to take a piece of it to a garden supply place and if they can tell you what it is then they can suggest the best method of eradication for that particular weed.

Could it be Hairy Vetch?

Your local rural lands protection board may be able to identify it.

The flowers look different, but possibly it is a variety. I have sent an email off to Rural lands, so it'll be interesting to see if they'll respond.
