What colours do you like to see in the show ring?

I know one colour I can't handle is lime green....especially when a stock is lime green.

So just post your opinions I guess.

I have a white horse so I think a nice electric blue and Red look really cool.

I have it sussed I reckon it sends subliminal messages to the judge to place me 1st, 2nd or 3rd. he he he he *jks*

I have to agree, lime green, orange, yellow, YUK YUK YUK. I think you should stay away from the citrus colors all together and stay traditional

I hate lime green too, but in saying that a young man(I think he's the best young rider getting around in SE QLD atm) who rides my black brown galloway for me and in rider classes wears a lime green and white striped shirt with a navy tie, vest and jacket and it looks really good.

I'm a bit more traditional too, love the blues(light and dark), reds, purples, cream and gold. Although lemon can look nice in the right combo.

My current browband in navy gold and cream.

What he's wearing sounds like a nice combo as the lime green is not the main colour and its not solid.

I know in the hack ring most people look at the more glamerous colours such as RED, BLUE, GOLD, CREAM, WHITE.

then i guess what ever colour looks good on your horse. eg buckskin horses look good in blacks and maroons where as little cute ponies look good in your pinks and reds and purples.... so i guess its up to your own taste.

I recently had a browband made in Cream, Blue and Gold as he is a large chestnut with 4 white socks so the lighter browband suited him better...oh and it had heaps of bling with it....

HOPE THAT HELPS!!! :) :) :)

That young rider's outfit sounded really nice, but some people just haven't got a clue. At the local dressage day last weekend, there was a rider with BLING all over and it looked ridiculous frankly!

So whether it's lime green or sparkles, less is more.

Hi, while we are on the subject of colours, I have a question for you all. My daughter is 12 years old and has a chestnut pony. I have recently bought a cream, white and gold browband for her. I was wondering if this would go with a navy jacket and I should she tie it all in (eg. what colour should the shirt/tie be?) Also, should she wear a stock or a tie?

Sorry, hope I'm not taking over this post :-(

At her age I'd use a shirt, tie and vest. There are lots of options on vests, you can get some really nice cream ones with gold brocade. Maybe a darker coloured tie (that still matches your colours) aswell.

what would look nice on a light dapple grey horse?

while we are on the subject of colours!

also... has anyone seen those fluro ribbon browbands!?! i almost died when i saw them! aaaah! i was like "are you going to a show... or planning to ride at night?"

i guess the kids would think they were really cool though so each to his own!

Red white and navy for most, mainly beacause they're my school colours and i 'm too lazy to get a different browband.

Forest green for Hunter, I have an awesome green mini-houndstooth tweed jacket I was given by some Hackie friends in England.

May has a purple, silver & lilac bb with a bit of bling on the rosette and i wear a purple lilac and white stripe tie. She is a very dark liver and so far it has gone over well..My daughter wears a paler tie and purple ribbons when she does lead rein classes.. it is enough colour to compliment without being too "in your face" i think..

I'm with you Eenie!! Go the purple!!

I'm not a true hackie, and me and Klay have only been to a couple of shows (he's still learning). I've always been one not to run with the fashions and have been told that "purple is out".

But I still love it!!

WELL... I must say I am totally a non-traditionalist. I really can't stand the royal blue/red etc, especially on chestnuts. For chestnuts I think thats when you have to move towards rarer colours (though NOT orange). I have a chestnut (third one in a row) and I did have on him blue and pink - but I bought a new tie thats lime green and pink and now I'm hooked on that. The blue and pink suited a little bit better but we stand out so much more now and therefore do better, also get lots of judges commenting on how much they like it. I like purple but again not the hugest fan for chestnuts. Looks awesome on grey's, pali's, buckskin's, blacks and most bays... not really dark bays though. As purple and white/grey are my school colours we get heaps of looks/comments at interschool events, pity I'm in yr 12 now... Lol, for Best Presented I used a friends rather stylish purple browband then for the rest of the day (and photos) swapped back to the official 'school' one.

My pet peeve with show ring attire is young children wearing stocks. Especially on ponies. Stocks are for adults not children. They look completely over done, even at royal/national level.

[b] I think royal blue, red and white would look very nice, or maybe royal blue, baby blue with some bright pink to make it stand out, just some suggestions

BeckStar I think that tie is gorgeous!!

I'm not hackie but if I was lime green and pink would be one of my top picks.

Love a bit of colour!
