I'm pretty sure that bog spavin is an escape of joint fluid from the joint capsule - usually from an injury like a twist or something. Draining it is the only way to get rid of the fluid lump. There's all sorts of stuff that can be injected in to help & I think from memory one of our youngsters had a firm bandage applied after it was drained. He's 19 now & it never recurred.

I had a horse who had this as a yearling. I had it drained, and the vets injected something into it (Ican't remember what). It went away, but came back a year later. I had the same thing done, but the lump remained.

I turned her out for about two years, thinking that she was never going to be any good, but now it is almost entirely gone.

Good luck with yours.
