I am going overseas later in the year and wish to attend some good race meetings. Does anyone know when the Arc de Triomphe in France is run and where exactly it is run (say in relation to Paris)?

Hi Bec
I envy you if you are planning a trip overseas and a possible trip to the Arc in France.
A few facts:
The Group 1 Arc De Triomphe for 3yos & Up is run over 2400m. Estbalished in 1920, the horse will be run on October 1 at Longchamp in Paris. By what I have read the track is easily accessible in the city.
It is certainly a treat looking at the honour roll of past winners of the race:
Previous winning gallopers include: Peintre Celebre (1997), Helissio (1996), Alleged (1977-8), Mill Reef (1971), Ribot (1955-6) etc.
Previous winning jockeys include: Peslier, Dettori, Glennon, Eddery, Kinane, Swinburn, Head, Williamson, Moore, Piggott, Elliot, Pyers, Saint-Martin etc.
And trainers include: Hammond, Fabre, Biancone, O'Brien, Mathet, Bin Suroor, Balding etc.
Dual winners of the race are:
Alleged 1977 and 1978
Ribot 1955 and 1956
Tantieme 1950 and 1951
Corrida 1936 and 1937
Motrico 1930 and 1932
Ksar 1920 and 1921.

The race record is held by Peintre Celebre at 2-24.6.
The highest weight carried to victory is 60kgs by numerous horses most recently by Star Appeal in 1975.
Jockey Peslier won the Arc in 1996-7-8.
Pat Eddery won 1985-6-7 also 1980.
The last mare to win the race was four year old Urban Sea in 1993.
15 of the fairer sex have won the race since inception. They won consecutive races in 1979-1983.
The oldest horse to win was seven year old horse Motrico when he won in 1932.
Have fun, behave and back the winner,
Cheers Greg
