Recently I tried (unsuccessfully) to find the race photos of my retired galloper. He raced in NZ, Melb, Syd, Adelaide and Bris but am interested in his Melbourne win and close run second in Adelaide (Port Adelaide Cup) late '80s early '90s. He wasn't a world beater but won 3 races and that's good enough for me!

Has anyone else tried to find race photos pre 1993? I believe a company called Melbourne Race Photography did them but the company now doesn't exist and no-one can tell me where the old records went!

As I am on the Gold Coast it is difficult and expensive calling all around town (interstate) chasing info. I would really appreciate any info.

PS: Last time I looked it was still raining! Please stop! Have a runner in the Sir Byrne Hart Stakes and he can't coordinate flippers and a snorkel. But then again you never know, I'd love to think he could.

For the Adelaide race you could try Atkins Photography. They have been doing the official photos of races here forever. I'm at work so can't get the details at the moment - will try to email you in the next couple of days if you like.

For Melbourne perhaps try Steve Hart or Martin King Sportpix both located in Sydney I think but I don't know who does the actual offical pics there though.

What was his racing name?

"Crown Regent" By New Regent out of a French mare Musique de Nuit. He was raced by the same connections as Bonecrusher.

A thousand thanks for the info Rubiton. I'll contact them all soon (on pay day).

My partner has a horse in the Grand Annual this afternoon - wish horse and jockey luck and a safe journey home (Cool Groom/Craig Durden). I'm not a huge fan of jumps races they always make me very nervous when they go round!

Thanks again.

Sorry if this message appears twice. I thought I replied earlier but it hasn't appeared as yet. Essentially my reply was:

'Crown Regent' by New Regent out of a French mare Musique de Nuit.

A thousand thanks for the info - I'll be making some calls soon (around pay day).

My partner has a wonderful little horse (Cool Groom) going round in the Grand Annual this afternoon. Would like to wish all horses and riders the best of luck and a safe journey home. I am not a huge fan of jumps races - I always get rather nervous when they race.

Thanks again Rubiton.

Hope he gets round safely and does well. Was it him that won the Brierly on Tuesday?

I've heard Warnambool is like Oakbank and they are nerve racking races to just watch. Much prefer the city jumps races where they have small jumps compared with the big solid ones at Oakbank.

Speaking of that you wouldn't believe the outcry here in the paper from the stay at home people who are upset the Great Eastern (Oakbank) wasn't on channel 9. Since racing followers tend to make it to the TAB (or have Sky pay)if they aren't on course it seems the general public just wanted to see it for the 'thrills & spills' aspect.

Alan Peach has some contacts down south and he is based in Brissie. Give him a try. He arranged a photo of my new riding horse! Sublimate when he won the galaxy in 1993. Alan had to go to his archives to get it, but the fact is he still keeps the photos.

Thanks to everyone for the info. I'm looking forward to finding a good race photo of my fellow.

Cool Groom did win the Brierly on Tuesday and was leading in the Grand Annual yesturday but fell at the second last jump (32/33 I think he was a little tired). Craig got back on and the horse was quietly picking grass shortly after the race.

No, I can't understand how people can get excited about watching any horse sport in the hope there will be some spectacular "thrills and spills".

When "Charlie" races I'm with him over every hurdle. I have every faith in Mr Houlihan, his horses are just so fit and are schooled to the best of their ability.

Good to hear he was OK. He is definately with one of the best jumps trainers.

To remember
Thankyou very much for that information. I was touched by the amount you provided. Yes you are correct. I contacts RSB as soon as he was mine and also chatted to John Smith who raced him. I am a bit of a softy - I have a large framed rug shot of him winning the Mercedes Benz plus lots of other bits of trivia.
PS tommorrow he is going to his first dressage day. Just hopeing there are no flashing lights, trumpets and sirens.
