hi there,

my mare is in foal...she's about 4 months along now...approx 120 days i think. she tested pregnant at 80 days and has shown sighns of developing belly/udder etc. I noticed about aweek ago she began to show signs of heat...however she would go up to the geldings...and one used to be a stallion and she would tease them...she was squealing and carrying on and prancing up and down the fence but she wouldn't let them near her and she would try and kick them if they did come near. I've heard thet some mares do this even when they are pregmnant but won't let the stallion near to them. what is going on??????????????????

Sounds like a mare saying "I'm in foal so leave me alone!". Some of them do that.

some mares will tease if they have fluid or cysts. just keep an eye on her.

Some pregnant mares exhibit stallion like behaviour around the 4-5 month mark. It is thought to be due to testosterone secretion by the foetus or placenta. Could this be what you are seeing?

I think it might be somewhat stallion behavior...but to geldings??? she's stopped doing it now...

thanks for your help, i will keep an eye on her
