I am considering putting my mare to a stallion within the next month or so. I know this is out of season, but the stallion is to be sent away for an operation on his leg. I am in north Qld and the weather is pretty mild in winter. The mare is cycling regularly. Are there any problems I could encounter in doing this.

if your mare is cycling regularly, and has been checked to see that she does not have any infections etc then you will be fine.

It will only be a prob if you want to show the foal as a youngster.
When it is born next may / june, on the 1st Aug it will become a yearling when in fact it will only be a couple of months old.

Get a vet to scan your mare when she is in season to see if she is still producing a follicle. Just because they are still cycling this time of year doesnt mean that she is producing a viable folicle.

A woman I went to tafe with always bred her QH mare out of season.
I never knew why but she did it a few times with no problem her mare even foaled in snow once...
Horses dont know when the breeding season is, They just breed when there bodies say its time ..
So if your girl is happy & healthy go for it..
