A report from Club Campestre Guaymaral – FEI Category B competition

25 August 2011 - First competition day

Jessica Tripp from New South Wales and Bianca Hodge from Western Australia arrived in Bogota Columbia a couple of days early to prepare for their FEI Category B competition and adjust to the altitude change to 2600 metres above sea level.
Thirty hours after they left Sydney they have been given a very warm welcome by the Federacion Ecuestre de Columbia and have been pleasantly surprised by the very high quality of the South American horses supplied for this competition. The Columbians have shown the International riders plenty of culture and food delights particular to this eight million people city spread across a large plateau on the top of the Andes mountains.
The first day of competition and Jessica on Insignia del Juncal had to wear two rails but rode with style and rhythm which were some of the attributes that helped her in gaining selection on this FEI Category B team. With plenty of riding to go yet Jess has high hopes for a clear round in Thursday’s round before the finals on Sunday. A faultless display in the warm up round gives Jess good reason for future success.
Bianca had mixed success in the warm up rounds on her two horses but came out on with a very controlled and effective round on Milenio to finish with the second fastest clear round and a good chance of competing in the top fifty percent which will progress to Final A of her group after the second round of tomorrow’s competition. Castaway had a lazy rail but was still a good chance of progressing to the final after his time and faults are calculated. As Bianca’s second horse he should ensure she will be competitive in the final which will be from a clean slate and calculated on optimum time.
The Australian girls have made plenty of friends and are looking forward to the rest of the competition and whatever the Columbians can throw their way.
Other nations competing besides Colombia are Chile, USA, Spain, Peru, Venezuela, Brazil, Panama, Mexico, Puerto Rico; a very multicultural competition.
