I want to hear from other people that have odd size horses.

I bought a rug for my mare yesterday, it's a 6'3", anyone want to have a guess at what size my horse is :D

If your horse is a freak, Shapeshifter, I've got one here that can keep her company! We'll have to get together to compare 'freaky' horse rug size vs height.

hehehe rmjens, I'm amazed by it, never thought she'd get so big, I knew she'd be sort of chunky from her mum but geez I think she might have bypassed her.

MMC she's actually around the 15hh mark, I need her measured again but it wouldn't be too much off there. Last proper measurement was 14 3/4.

I knew I was going to have trouble fitting a saddle to her and haven't got that far yet but I think it's going to be even more difficult than I thought.

LMAO at Autumn, love to see that :D

When I went in to buy the rug I didn't want to tell the sales lady what size horse, she wouldn't have sold it too me!!! I'm going to pop down and show her a photo LOL (really nice lady by the way).

Shapeshifter, you think you have problems!

Alladin, our Haflinger, is only 13.1 hands high (and we joke that he's about the same wide) and we use a 6' combo on him. Getting a saddle to fit has been a challenge. I'm still kicking myself for not buying a Klimke that Jen had at Divine Equine earlier this year. It fit him really well.

The Wintec Wide has done an ok job for the past four years. That maybe an option until she finishes growing?

My QH gelding is also 15h and wears a 6'3. He is built like a proverbial brick .....house though. He is ridden in a Bates wide gullet stock saddle that was fitted to him, so there is hope for the 'wider berthed' equine friends out there.

Yep, my QHx pony was 13.3hh, she fit a 5'9 as a 3yo and matured into a 6'
I remember having arguments with a particular know it all saddlery that told me there was no way a horse of that height could fit a rug that big and i was obviously wrong.
So i took her in..... :D

nel I've heard of other people having those arguments too, us silly horse owners wouldn't know what size our horses are, nooooo !!!! :D

If she was a QH I might have expected it but she isn't, she's 8/8 appaloosa. LOL sounds better than 11xAPP, 3xQH, 1xTB and 1xunknown(QH)/16

I had a thoroughbred that was about 14.3 and she was in a 6'3 rug, she was a sprint bred girl, and solid as, and looked like a little QH, she was such a lovely thing, when i got her looked like an overgrown yearling, but with good food and care filled out amazingly!

It's amazing how they never look like they are great big lumps in photos isn't it :D

I've also noticed a huge variation in sizes between the different brands of horse rugs. They all differ so much in neck size, length of drop and shape that it's often a case of hit and miss if you buy a brand you haven't used before.

Makes me laugh. My colt is 17,2hh (plus a bit because that's as far as my stick goes). He swims in a 6'6" and fits most 6'3" combos. LOL

Obviously he's not very wide yet.

Ohhh so Whitefoot, you are actually saying that we are all delusional???

My 15.2 gelding fits a 6' in majority of brands and I have gone through a lot of different brands with him, all a 6' and all fit fine.

Sure there are some brands out there that are out by a few inches, I bought some cheap ones that were 6' but they'd be lucky to be 5'9", didn't fit either of them comfortably.

Anyway just saying...

My old 16hh gelding took 6'3 size rugs. My 15hh QH takes 6'6 size rugs. (She's a bit broad :o)

Toriadore, what type of saddle do you have on her, does she have a long back as well?

My old stock horse mare who is 15.1 takes 6.6 rugs and my warmblood 15.3 hh mare takes 6.9, they come in all shapes and sizes eh...

My 14.3h Arabian took a 5'9, very standard.
The 15h QH took a 6'3, very old fashioned tank.
The 14.1h Anglo takes a 5'9 or 6', she grew long for her height due to a poor start in life.

In my dreams I'm actually 5'10 and wear a size 10 or 12 :D

Hey Shapeshifter. I ride her in a Stubben which i've had a few challenges with, saddle slipping etc. I had a saddle fitter come out and had the gullett widened and saddle re-packed. It fits her beautifully now.
She's not overly long in the back. You can view pics of her on my profile if you would like. :)
