    Default My poor baby Bonnie...

I went down the horse yards today and found my pony (my little baby Bonnie) with a deformed face :( Well, not totally deformed, but all swollen and looking a bit ape-man-ish!!!!

What had happened was my new TB mare Jazz had obviously given Bonnie a bit of a rough time in the paddock (and Bonnie being soo sweet and all...) and neither one of them would come near me until Saturday. Bonnie had a small graze on her left cheek on Saturday lunch time, but she was eating and it didnt bother her so I trotted off to work and forgot about it (I did seperate them though). I asked hubby to feed them yesterday because I had to work all day, and he didnt notice anything then...

But today all the left side of her face is swollen from around her eye all down to her mouth. She smells terrible and there is yucky black blood all in her mouth. Oh, and she is making like a "clicking" noise inside her mouth. I raced home and called the GV Equine Centre and they are coming out at 3...but the wait is killing me!!!!

The stupid thing is, I see hurt/sick/broken people almost every day, but non of it is as bad as seeing you own pride and joy hurting so much :'(

God, what if its serious? What if shes broken her jaw? Im turning into a nervous wreck....

I FEEL LIKE SUCH A BAD MUM :'(

Argghh...the vets just called and asked if they could come tomorrow cos they are flat out with foaling time etc...!!!!

I was like "**SOB** no, I need you now **sniffle sniffle**" So they are now coming at 5...

There is no way that I could let Bonny go all night in that condition - hell, I couldnt go all night with her in that condition.

She has a bad infection to her face & nasal passage, and "maybe" a fracure in her jaw. There is too much swelling at the moment to tell anything :( I have to give bute, penicillin, gentamicin and encourage fluit intake and if there is no improvement by tomorrow then I have to take her over to the hospital...

Poor Bonnie; our thoughts are with you, Sheppy. I'm sure she'll respond quickly to the penicillin and the bute will take away a lot of the pain. Stay positive and keep us posted.
